Supporting Family Businesses with Sockprints: National Mom and Pop Owners Day
March 29th is National Mom and Pop Owners Day, a national holiday set aside to celebrate small businesses and family owned businesses across the country. 🎊
As moms and family business owners, we wanted to shed some light on the benefits of supporting family owned businesses—as well as thank our many family members, including spouses, children, in-laws, and others, who have helped us get our feet (or socks!) off the ground. 😉
For some family members, this meant allowing us to commandeer the living room for early-day sock printing experiments, while others helped us fill orders, keep warehouses stocked and orderly, shared about our new business, or even modeled our new products with their friends for social media! 📸
To our family (biological and adopted or honorary!), we say THANK YOU! 👏 We couldn’t do it without you (and we wouldn’t want to!). 💕
Why are family businesses important?
Ever heard of a “small mom and pop shop?” Well. Together, “small” family businesses make a big difference in our economy. 💪
Did you know that:
- Family businesses generate 62% of the country’s employment, and are responsible for 78% of new jobs? 🤝
- 35% of Fortune 500 companies are family-owned, from small businesses to major corporations 🏅
- Research reports that family businesses are less likely to lay off employees—regardless of financial performance—than major corporations. (Need more evidence? Just think about the massive corporate layoffs of 2020! 😨)
The difference with family businesses like Sockprints
While the statistics speak for themselves, how did little businesses make such a big impact? The answer is clear. We think differently.
Family businesses focus on longevity—which means we don’t take shortcuts. 🙅♀️ This means creating workplace cultures where people want to stay, using sustainable products that allow us and the planet to continue thriving for generations to come 🌏, and creating products that customers will continue to trust over and over again. 💞
In other words, we’re willing to think outside the box 📦 (in fact, 72% of family businesses measure success outside just profit and growth!), and hold ourselves to higher standards. (Speaking of higher standards, 60% of family businesses report having more stringent ethical standards than other market competitors. Over achievers? Or just committed to a cause? We choose to believe the second! 🙋♀️)
Not only does this commitment impact how we do business, but it ensures that every custom-printed sock, bag, mask, or other gift that you order both satisfies and delights! 😀
Our commitment to you: the Sockprints mission, vision, and core values
This year, Sockprints is stepping up its game in a big way (and not just in the socks we wear!).
We’re two moms standing with 5.5 million other family businesses in the U.S. in committing to quality, longevity, and more as we launch our mission, vision, core values, and purpose statements.
Throughout 2022, we invite you to follow along as we formally introduce, and deep dive 🤿 into the tenets that make us who we are. But for now, we wanted to give you a sneak peek of just a few of the good things to come! 😉
